Mathias Colomb Cree Nation of Pukatawagan islocated 819 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg,210 kilometres north of The Pas and 217 kilometres west of Thompson.
In 1875, Treaty #6 was signed by the Woods, CreeStonies and other First Nations living in NorthernSaskatchewan. Originally, the Matias Colomb Cree Nation peoplewere part of the James Roberts First Nation of Montreal Lake, Saskatchewan.
The Mathias Colomb Cree Nation was formed in 1910 as a group of natives separated from the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation of Saskatchewan.
The First Nation is signatory to the 1898 adhesion to Treaty 6. The native language is Cree.
According to the regional population statistics of December 31st, 2003, the First Nation has an on-reserve populationof 2,043 and an off-reserve population of 833 and an on Crown land populationof 98. The total First Nation population is 2,977.
